Earlier in the week, via Korn’s social media outlets, the band posted a teaser video for what seemed like a new single with today’s date – 7.22.2016 – written mysteriously as a prelude to an announcement. The question was whether it would be just the single – titled “Rotting In Vain” – or would it possibly be something further, like a new album?
Well today all was unveiled as the band not only dropped their new single – available digitally – but also dropped the announcement of their 12th album, The Serenity of Suffering, which is due out on October 21, 2016 via Roadrunner Records.
“Rotting In Vain” was debuted live earlier this year in Chicago and has been performed several times since. It makes sense that this is being put forward as the album’s lead single.
Vocalist Jonathan Davis comments on the single:
“Rotting in Vain was written about being in that black place, being in situations that I don’t like in life — be it relationships, or feeling when you’re stuck and you’re just being abused or you don’t like where you’re at, and you just sit there and rot.
“It takes you years and years to figure out how to claw your way out. That’s where Rotting in Vain came from. I’m just sitting there, fucking dying and letting it happen for years and years and not helping myself to get out of that place. That’s the vibe that inspired the song.”
There also a music video available for “Rotting In Vain”. Watch it below.
